City Palace Jaipur History
This palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who ruled Amer from 1699 to 1744. Its construction started in 1729 and was completed in 1732. Here is the throne of Maharaj of Jaipur of Kachwah Rajput Dynasty.
City Palace Jaipur Interesting Facts
- This wonderful palace has been built by mixing Mughal, Shilp Shastra and European architecture, which took a total of three years to build.
- Its Palace has been constructed with red and pink sandstone stones, on which the finely cut and wonderful paintings made on the walls look very beautiful to see.
- The two main palaces in this attractive building are Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal.
- There are three main entrances to this palace: Virendra Pol, Uday Pol and Tripolia Gate.
- Tourists can enter this palace only through Uday Pol and Virendra Pol gates while only members of the royal family are allowed inside from Tripolia Gate.
- Pritam Niwas Chowk, Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Bhagi Khana, Maharani Mahal and Govind Dev Ji Temple (dedicated to Lord Krishna) are some of the main attractions in this palace.
- Two Silver jars are the main attractions of the City Palace which have made their place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest silver jars in the world.
- The Palace was converted into a museum dedicated to the present-day King Sawai Madho Singh II of Jaipur, displaying many ancient royal costumes along with Banarasi saris and Pashmina shawls.
- The museum here also has ivory swords, chain weapons, guns, pistols, cannons, poison-tipped blades and gun powder pouches on display.
- The City Palace is open for tourists from 9 am to 5 pm on all days of the week.
- The entry fee to this palace is Rs 75 for Indians, Rs 300 for foreigners and Rs 40 for children. There is an additional charge for photography and videography.
- Light and sound shows are also organized in the palace every day from 7.30 pm onwards.
