The name was given to Mount Rashmore in the year 1885 after Charles E. Rashmore, a famous lawyer from New York. Doen Robinson wanted to increase the number of tourists in the Black Hills of Southern Dakota, for which he had the objective of creating artifacts of some great people in this mountain. He had a dream to make some major heroic sculptures on Black Hills, which he contacted a famous sculptor Gutzon Borglam, who was carving Stone Mountain in Georgia. Agreed to meet Robinson and Gutzon Borglam believed that this mountain should be built with national importance that would make the history of our country more relevant. He wanted to build a historical place for democracy. In the year 1927, carving work started on the mountains of Black Hills and after a few years this work was completed by 1941.

1. The dream of building a sculpture in the Black Hills was conceived by South Dakota historian Doane Robinson in the year 1923. He wanted to find a way to attract tourists to the state.

3. The height of the face of each great president, carved on the Black Hills mountain, is about 60 feet.
4. The mountain was officially recognized as Mount Rushmore by the United States Board of Directors in 1930, taking into account the geographical names.
