Sai Baba Temple Overview

One of the most beautiful chapters in Indian history is the history of Sai Baba of Shirdi. Sai Baba of Shirdi is considered one of the greatest men of India. Due to his positive thoughts and attitude, most of the population of India worships him in the form of God.

He was such a person who had done the work of increasing the unity between the people of Hindu and Muslim sects, due to which not only the people of Hindu sect worship him, but people of Muslim community also worship him. To worship him, a temple of Sai Baba has also been established in Shirdi, located in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.

Sai Baba Temple History

The history of Sai Baba's holy temple in Shirdi starts from the time when Sai Baba came to Shirdi. He stayed in Shirdi for a few years and then for 1 year leaves from Shirdi somewhere and in about 1858 AD he again comes back to Shirdi. Sai Baba's temple located in Shirdi was built over the Samadhi of Sai Baba in about 1922. Sai is believed to have come to Shirdi at the age of 16 and stayed here till he was absorbed into Chirasamadhi.

Sai Baba Temple Interesting Facts

  1. Nothing is clear about the birth and name of Sai Baba, but according to some historians, he was born in 1838 AD and his real name was Haribhau Bhusari.
  2. Sai Baba came to Shirdi for the First time in about 1854 AD. After which he stayed there for three years and went somewhere else for 1 year. In the year 1858, Sai Baba returned to Shirdi and spent his entire life there.
  3. Sai Baba is believed to have died on the year 15 October 1918 at the same place in Shirdi where he has a grand temple today.
  4. The Temple of Sai Baba of Shirdi was built in about 1922 AD by Shrimant Gopalrao and Sai devotees.
  5. This Temple has been built in the Hindu architectural style, due to which this temple become one of the most unique temples of Sai.
  6. Sai was a great supporter of Hindu-Muslim unity, due to which his devotees were not only Hindus but also some Muslims. People of every religion have been allowed to go to Sai's temples.
  7. Millions of rupees of gold are donated every year in the Sai temple of Shirdi, which are donated by Sai devotees from not only Indians but about 100 different countries.
  8. India's most famous industrialist Keshav R. Murugesh donated about Rs 110 crore to the Sai Temple in Shirdi, so that about 14,000 ashrams could be opened in Shirdi by using that money.
  9. According to a report in 2011, the literacy rate in Shirdi is 70%, while the literacy rate in the whole of India is around 59.5%.
  10. Many films have been made on Shirdi's Sai Baba and the temple, in which Shirdi's Sai Baba, Shirdi Sai Baba, Ishwar Avatar Sai Baba, and Malik are prominent.
