Anandibai Joshi was the first Indian woman to get a medical degree. At a time when women's education was also difficult, going abroad and obtaining a medical degree was an example for them. Anandi Gopal Joshi's personality was an inspiration to women.

Anandibai Joshi was born on 31 March 1865 in Pune, Maharashtra (India). His full name was Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi. As a child, his parents used to call him the Yamuna. His father's name was Ganpatrao Amruteshwar Joshi, who used to work as a zamindar.
At the end of the year 1886, Anandibai returned to India where she was given a grand welcome. It was then that the princely state of Kolhapur appointed her as physician in-charge of the women's ward of the local Albert Edward Hospital. But the following year, on 26 February 1887 in Pune, Bombay Presidency, British India, Anandibai died of tuberculosis at the age of 22.
At the age of fourteen, Anandibai gave birth to a boy, but due to lack of medical care, the child survived for a total of ten days. This proved to be a turning point in Anandi's life and inspired her to become a doctor. After Gopal Rao enrolled in missionary schools and did not work, she moved to Calcutta. There he learned to read and speak Sanskrit and English. Her husband encouraged her to study medicine. In 1880 he sent a letter to a famous American missionary, Royal Wilder, in which he studied medicine in the United States, looking for his wife's interest, and sought a suitable position in America for himself. Wilder also published them in correspondence in his Princeton Missionary Review.
His family was an orthodox Marathi family, which knew only Sanskrit reading. He was married to a 20-year-old young man Gopalrao at the age of only nine. At the age of 14, Anandibai became a mother for the first time, but the offspring could not survive because she could not get the right treatment at that time. Anandiben moved to America to study in the medical field to fulfill her dreams and in the year 1886 At the age of just 19, he earned an MD degree.
