Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay was a brilliant scholar of Bengal and a great poet and novelist. In 1874 he composed the famous Desh Bhakti song Vande Mataram which was later included in the novel named Anand Math. The song Vande Mataram was first sung at the Calcutta Session of Congress in 1896.

Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay was born on 27 June 1838 in Kanthalpada Naihati city, Bengal. His father's name was Yadav Chandra Chattopadhyay and mother's name was Durgadebi Chattopadhyay. His father used to reduce to the post of deputy collector of Midnapore as a government official. His parents had three children, he was the youngest in his family, his elder brother Sanjib Chandra Chattopadhyay was also a novelist. And he is known for his famous book "Palamu".
