Madam Bhikaji Cama was born on 24 September 1861 in Bombay (India) to a Parsi family. His full name was Bhikaji Rustom Cama. His father's name was Sorabji Framji Patel and mother's name was Jayajibai Sorabji Patel. His father was less of a lawyer training and was also a famous businessman by profession.

Madam Bhikaji Cama died on 13 August 1936 (age 74 years) in Bombay, Bombay Presidency, British India due to a condition of anonymity.

Madam Cama served as the secretary of Dadabhai Naoroji, a prominent social worker. Madam Bhikaji Cama hoisted the first flag of India, it had green, saffron, and red stripes. Also, in the middle of it was written Vande Mataram in Devanagari script. The Cama flag, a modification of the Calcutta flag, was co-designed by Cama and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. On 22 August 1907, Bhikaji Cama raised the first flag of Indian independence flag at the International Socialist Conference held in Germany. India's first tricolor national flag is still kept in the house of BJP leader Rajubhai Rana (Rajendrasinh Rana), grandson of Sardarsingh Rana, located in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. His portrait appeared in French newspapers with Joan of Arc. It was a soulful expression of the fact that Mrs. Cama had a special place in the national and democratic society of Europe. Mrs. Cama's fight was against imperialism around the world.

The roads and places in many Indian cities are named after Bhikhaji Cama or Madame Cama. On 26 January 1962, on the 11th Republic Day of India, the Indian Postal and Telegraph Department issued a commemorative postage stamp in his honor.
