Fatima Bibi - First Woman Judge in Supreme Court (1989)

Fatima Bibi is a former judge of the Supreme Court. He did his schooling at Kathiloket High School, Pathanamthitta. He graduated from University College, Trivandrum, and did LLB from Law College, Trivandrum. She was registered as a lawyer on 14 November 1950, appointed as Munsiff in the Kerala Subordinate Judicial Service in May 1958.

Fatima Biwi was born on 30 April 1927 in Pathanamthitta, Travancore (now Kerala, India), Tamil Nadu. His full name is Meera Sahib Fatima Bibi. His father's name was Meera Sahib and his mother's name was Khadija Bibi.
He did his schooling at Town School and Catholic High School, Pathanamthitta, and a B.Sc in Chemistry from University College, Thiruvananthapuram. Subsequently, he completed his BL Degree from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram.

Fatima Bibi was nominated as Advocate on 14 November 1950. He topped the Bar Council examination in 1950. He started his career in the lower judiciary in Kerala. In May 1958, he was appointed as Munsif in the Kerala Sub-Ordinate Judicial Services. He was promoted as Sub-Ordinance Judge in 1968 and as Chief Judicial Magistrate in 1972, as District and Sessions Judge in 1974.

He was appointed as a judicial member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in January 1980. He was then elevated to the High Court on 4 August 1983 as a judge. She became a permanent judge of the High Court on 14 May 1984. She retired as a High Court Judge on 29 April 1989 but as a Judge on 6 October 1989, held a high position in the Supreme Court, where she retired on 29 April 1992. She later became the Governor of Tamil Nadu on 25 January 1997.

He rejected mercy petitions filed by four condemned prisoners in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case. The prisoners sent mercy petitions to the governor, appealing for the use of his power under Article 161 of the Constitution (power of the governor to grant pardons).
