Kanchan Chaudhary is the former Director General of Uttarakhand Police. Some time ago he ventured into politics and participated in the 2014 Indian general election from Haridwar, Uttarakhand as an Aam Aadmi Party candidate.

Kanchan Chaudhary was born in 1947 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. His full name was Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya. His father's name was Madan Mohan Chaudhary.
Kanchan Chaudhary died on 26 August 2019 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India due to a prolonged illness at a Mumbai hospital where she was undergoing care for four, five months.
She was the first child of Madan Mohan Chaudhary. Chaudhary attended the Government College for Women, Amritsar. Later, Kanchan completed a Master of Arts (MA) in English Literature from Indraprastha College, University of Delhi, followed by a Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia in 1993.

Kanchan Choudhary's career in the Indian Police Service was 33 years. She was the second woman (after Kiran Bedi) to become an IPS officer. She was the only female trainee in her batch. She was the first woman to become an IPS officer in Uttar Pradesh and the first woman appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. She was then promoted as the first woman inspector general of the Uttar Pradesh Police. She was the first woman to serve as Additional Director General of Police in Uttaranchal and then the first woman to be promoted as Director General of Police in the state.

The cases Kanchan Choudhary handled in her career include the murder of seven-time national badminton champion Syed Modi in 1987 and the Reliance-Bombay Dyeing case in 1989. In his time as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Malihabad, Uttar Pradesh, he detected 13 dacoits. in one year.
