Major Somnath Sharma was the company-commander of the Delta Company of the 4th Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army, who rescued the enemy sixes with his valor in the Indo-Pak conflict of October-November, 1947. In 1950, the Government of India posthumously awarded him the 'Paramveer Chakra', the largest decoration of the Indian Army.
