Sumitranandan Pant was a famous poet of Hindi literature. This era is called the era of poets like Jaishankar Prasad, Mahadevi Varma, Suryakant Tripathi 'Nirala "and Ramkumar Varma. Sumitranandan Pant was born on 20 May 1900 in the village of Kasoni in Almora district of Uttarakhand. His real name was Gusai Dutt. His father's name was Ganga Dutt Pant and mother's name was Saraswati Devi.

Sumitranandan Pant is one of the four major pillars of the Chhayawadi era in Hindi literature. This era is called the era of poets like Jaishankar Prasad, Mahadevi Varma, Suryakant Tripathi "Nirala" and Ramkumar Varma. At the age of just seven, when Pant was studying in the fourth grade, he started writing poetry. By around 1918, he was recognized as the originator of the new Hindi stream. His poems of this period are compiled in Veena. His famous poetry collection 'Pallava "was published in 1926. In the year 1938, he brought out a monthly paper called" Rupabha ", he was associated with Akashvani from 1950 to 957 and served as chief-producer. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award for Arts and Old Moon, "Soviet Land Nehru Award" on Lokayatan and "Bharatiya Jnanpith Award" on "Chidambra". He was awarded the 'Nehru Shanti Puraskar' from the Government of the Soviet Union for the work of "Lokayatan". The Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan in 1961.
