Tatya Tope ranks high among the leading heroes of the "First Freedom Struggle" of 1857. He fought hard against the English forces in many places like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat etc. through his military campaigns and was severely defeated Was disturbed.
After the rebellion on 05 June 1857 at Kavpore (Kanpur), Nana Saheb became the leader of the rebels. As the British forces surrendered on 25 June 1857, Nana was declared Peshwa in late June. General Havelock faced Nana's forces twice before they were defeated in their third bout. After the defeat, Nana's troops had to return to Bithoor, after which Havelock crossed the Ganges and overtook Avadh. Tantia Tope started acting in Nana Saheb's name from Bithoor. Tantia Tope was one of the leaders of Connor's massacre, which took place on June 27, 1857. Later, Tope held a good defensive post until he was ousted on 16 August 1857 by a British force led by Sir Henry Havelock.
Later, he defeated General Charles Ash Wyndham at Conpore II, which began on November 27, 1857, and continued for two days. However, Tope and his army were later defeated in Kovpor III, when the British retaliated under Sir Colin Campbell. Tope and other rebels fled and took refuge on the Rani of Jhansi, while simultaneously supporting her. Tanya Tope continued resistance by the British as a guerrilla fighter even after the 1857 rebellion. He inspired the armies of the kingdom to revolt against the king and was able to replace lost artillery in the Banas River. Tope then moved his forces towards Indore but was pursued by the British, now commanded by General John Mitchell as he fled towards Sironj. Tope, along with Rao Saheb, decided to split his combined force so that he could make his way to Chanderi with a greater force, and Rao Saheb with a smaller force of Jhansi on the other side. However, they re-aligned in October and suffered another defeat at Chhota Udaipur.
