When two or more elements are joined together by chemical bonds in a certain proportion according to the mass, the substance which is formed is called a chemical compound. For example, water, common salt, sulfuric acid etc. are chemical compounds. Chemistry is generally referred to as a subject. Which mostly includes formulas as well as reactions. We come across various chemical substances in our daily life. Some of the ingredients we use in our home, such as the staples in the medicine cabinet, contain chemicals. All these chemicals are bound to atoms in a certain ratio and are also arranged in a certain way. So, to find out what kind of ratios these are and their arrangement within matter, more is needed of chemical formula
Importance of Chemistry Formulas:
A chemical formula in chemistry is like a shorthand used to represent the elements in a compound. Elements with periodic table symbols. These chemical symbols are used to represent different individual elements such as H, hydrogen, O for oxygen, Ca for calcium, Na for sodium and so on. Substances in which two or more atoms are bonded together, and one or more elements are called compounds. So in order to know the nature of these chemical compounds and their reactions, chemistry formulas play an important role. It gives an idea of how a substance is formed and the ratio of the elements involved in that particular reaction.
Types of Chemical Formula:
Molecular Formula: Molecular formula gives you the number of elements present in a compound. In this formula, elements are written as their symbols in the periodic table where the number of atoms is written as a subscript. For example, the molecular formula for glucose is written as C 6 H 12 O 6. Empirical Formula: In chemistry, the empirical formula of a compound is the formula that tells which atoms are in the molecule of that compound and what is the simplest ratio of the number of those atoms. For example, the experimental formula for hexane is C3H7 while its molecular formula is C6H14. Structural Formula: As the name tells you, the structural formula provides an idea of how the atoms in a molecule or compound are arranged along with their bonds.
