The tower is a high pillar-shaped architecture, which looks taller and stretched than a common turret. The minarets are generally cylindrical, tall and equipped with a crown at the top. They are taller than the surrounding buildings and are often found adjacent to Muslim mosques. Minarets usually have a lower door to enter the minaret, a zina inside which can be climbed up and a place to stand at the top.
In Islamic practice, mullahs stand on this high platform and call people to offer prayers, although it is not necessary that every minaret should be used in this way. In the Indian subcontinent, Afghanistan and Iran, minarets are round or octagonal, but in North Africa it is customary to build square-shaped minarets.
