The first Indian "Commander-in-Chief" was Field Marshal KM Cariappa. He took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army on 15 January 1949. He was the Chief of the Indian Army and the first Indian Army officer from independent India to be assigned this position.
VK Krishna Menon was the first Indian to become the President of the United Nations General Assembly. He was an Indian nationalist, politician, diplomat, and Defense Minister of India from 1957 to 1962.
