History of Indian Education:
The history of Indian education is also the history of Indian civilization. The place of education and its role in the outline of the development and changes taking place in the Indian society are also continuously developing. After the public system of education between Sutrakala and Lokayata, we see Buddhist education becoming full of material and social commitment. Women and Shudras were also included in the mainstream of education during the Buddhist period.
After independence, Radhakrishna Commission (1948-49), Secondary Education Commission (Mudalier Commission) 1953, University Grants Commission (1953), Kothari Education Commission (1964), National Education Policy (1968) and New Education Policy (1986) etc. Serious efforts were made from time to time to give the right direction to the Indian education system. In 1948-49, the Indian University Commission was appointed for the reform of universities. The recommendations of the commission were implemented with great promptness. Sufficient success was achieved in higher education.
Punjab, Gauhati, Poona, Roorkee, Kashmir, Baroda, Karnataka, Gujarat, Women's University, Vishwabharati, Bihar, Srivekanteshwar, Yadavpur, Vallabhbhai, Kurukshetra, Gorakhpur, Vikram, Sanskrit V.V. etc. many new universities were established. In 1952-53, the Secondary Education Commission made several suggestions for the progress of secondary education. Due to the reorganization of secondary education, considerable success was achieved in education.
