In this mainly the information of latest events, sports, personality, politics, advertisement is printed on cheap paper. Newspapers occupy an important place in the means of communication. These are prepared by writing or printing sentences made of words on paper. Newspapers are usually daily but some newspapers are weekly, monthly and half yearly. The term newspapers 'Bible of Democracy' was coined by American journalist, sociologist and author Walter Lippmann. Walter Lippmann used this nickname in his book "Public Opinion". He understood the importance of newspapers as the foundation of democracy and considered newspapers important in conveying knowledge and ideas to the public.
Devkrishna Vyas worked as a senior journalist in the daily newspaper Hindustan for about 29 years and retired as an assistant editor in the year 1989. Vyas died at the age of 89 on 19 September 2016 in New Delhi after illness.
Surendranath Banerjee was one of the early Indian political leaders during the British Raj. Surandranath Banerjee started a newspaper called "The Bailong" in 1879.
The first newspaper in India "Bengal Gazette" which was published in Kolkata, was started on 29 January 1780. The Portuguese were the first people to set up a printing press in India. In 1557, the Goa clergy printed the first book in India.
Udant Martand is India's first Hindi language newspaper, first published on 30 May 1826. The weekly newspaper was published from Kolkata on 30 May 1826 every Tuesday by Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla.
