Even after the Indo-Pak war of 1971, there were many military conflicts between India and Pakistan. Tensions were further aggravated by Nuclear Tests by both countries. To defuse the situation, both the countries signed the declaration in February 1999 in Lahore. In which the Kashmir issue was promised to be resolved peacefully by bilateral talks, but Pakistan started sending its troops and para-military forces across the Line of Control in hiding and named this incursion "Operation Badr".

Its main objective was to break the link between Kashmir and Ladakh and remove the Indian Army from the Siachen Glacier. Initially it was considered an infiltration and it was claimed that they would be thrown out in a few days. But after a search along the Line of Control and after discovering the difference in the tactics employed by these infiltrators, the Indian Army realized that the attack was planned on a much larger scale.

When the Indian Government got the news of this, the Indian Army launched Operation Vijay, under which 2,00,000 soldiers were sent to war to drive out the Pak army. The Indian Air Force also used MiG-27 and MiG-29 against Pakistan. After this, bombs were dropped wherever Pakistan had occupied. Apart from this, with the help of MiG-29, many targets of Pakistan were attacked with R-77 missiles.

One round per minute was fired every day during the 17 days of fighting. It is said that after the Second World War, this was the only war in which such a large number of bombings were done on the army of the enemy country.
