World Environment Day History
The declaration of celebrating this day was made by the United Nations in the year 1972 to bring political and social awareness towards the environment at the global level. It was launched after discussions at the World Environment Conference organized by the United Nations General Assembly from June 05 to June 16. The First World Environment Day was celebrated on 05 June 1974.
More than 143 countries participate in it every year and many government, social and business people talk on the topic of environmental protection, problems etc. Various programs are organized to make people aware on this day, such as planting trees, telling people their importance etc.
