World Standard Day Brief

Every year 14 October is observed as World Standards Day in the member countries of IEC, ITU and ISO. The day is observed to honor the mutual and collaborative efforts of a number of experts to create voluntary technical agreements published in the form of International Standards.

A poster competition is organized on the occasion of World Standards Day, from which the best posters depicting World Standards Day are chosen. This year, the organizer WSC has asked the contestants to draw on the theme 'International Standards Ensure Positive Change'.

The World Standards Corporation was established in 2001 to strengthen and develop voluntary agreed international standards of IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), ISO (International Organization for Standardization), and ITU (International Telecommunication Union).

World Standards Day was celebrated for the first time in the year 1970. The date for celebrating World Standards Day was chosen in the year 1946. In London, 25 delegates from different countries agreed to form an international organization to assist in standardization.
