First woman Chief Secretary of Telangana
Shanti Kumari became the first woman in Telangana to hold the post of chief secretary, the highest bureaucratic post in the state. Her tenure will be till April 2025. Shanti replaces Somesh Kumar, who was earlier the chief secretary. Shanti Kumari, a 1989 batch IAS officer, was working as Special Chief Secretary in the State Forest Department.
The Chief Secretary acts as the chief advisor to the Chief Minister on all matters of state administration and is usually the senior most IAS officer of the most senior batch of the state.

Shanti, a post graduate in Marine Biology, did her MBA in the United States and also worked in United Nations programs for two years. During his three decades of service, he held various positions in the education, health, poverty alleviation, skill development and forest departments.
