Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar approved 'Bihar Reservation Amendment Bill-2023'. Now the scope of reservation in government jobs and educational institutions in Bihar will increase to 75 percent. Earlier, in the winter session of the Legislature, this bill was passed unanimously and sent to the Governor. Under this, a provision has been made to give 20 percent reservation for Scheduled Castes, 2 percent for Scheduled Castes, 18 percent for Backward Classes and 25 percent for Extremely Backward Classes in government jobs. In the general category, the economically weaker section will continue to get 10 percent reservation as before.
What explained the need for change in reservation?
- System of justice in social, economic, political aspects.
- Efforts will have to be made to provide equality in status and opportunity.
- To reduce inequality in income, status, facilities and opportunities.
- To promote educational-economic interests of SC/ST and other weaker sections.
Reservation will be distributed like this-
- Scheduled Caste- 20%
- Scheduled Tribe- 02%
- Extremely Backward Class – 25%
- Backward Class- 18%
The distribution of reservation for promotion will be as follows-

- Scheduled Tribe- 02%
Apart from 65% reservation, you will also get this
If candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Extremely Backward Class or Backward Class are selected on the basis of merit without taking reservation on the basis of caste, then their appointment will be considered under the remaining 35 percent.
