G20 summit 2023
The 2023 G20 New Delhi summit was the eighteenth meeting of the G20. It was held on 9-10 September 2023 at Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. This was the first G20 summit held in India. The G20 New Delhi summit is chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He announced that the African Union has been admitted as a member of the G20, making it the 21st member.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and other heads of state and international organizations observed a minute's silence and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi. PM Modi also gifted the G20 presidency to Brazilian President Lula da Silva. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy visited Akshardham Temple in Delhi.

Preparation for G20 2023
The Government of India has allocated ₹990 crore for the G20 events. The government deployed 130,000 security personnel, including 80,000 Delhi Police officers, to secure the event.
Restrictions in Delhi
Among the restrictions imposed in Delhi, all schools, offices, workplaces, markets, restaurants and non-food shops were ordered to be closed for three days. Meanwhile, traffic advisories were issued regarding movement on roads, e-commerce delivery under the jurisdiction of New Delhi Municipal Council (NMDC) was limited to ordering medicines and groceries and people were asked to stay at home.

The G20 was established in 1999 in response to several world economic crises.
The G20 is composed of the finance ministries of most of the world's largest economies, including both industrialized and developing countries; It accounts for approximately 80% of gross world product (GWP), 75% of international trade, two-thirds of the global population, and 60% of the world's land area.
