India's First Electric AC Double Decker Bus

Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) inaugurated India's first electric air conditioned (AC) double decker bus in Mumbai. The e-bus will be registered with the Regional Transport Office before hitting the road for public use. Lokesh Chandra, general manager of Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST), says they are going to get 4-5 more double-decker air-conditioned e-buses in the next 8-10 days, taking the total to 20 such buses.

Bus facility :-

• The new e-bus offers two doors and stairs to open to access the upper deck as compared to its conventional counterparts.
• The bus is equipped with CCTV technology and automatic doors.
• Double decker e-buses have almost double the passenger carrying capacity as compared to single decker counterparts.
• SWITCH will provide 200 electric double decker buses to BEST, which will ply on various roads in Mumbai.
• The fare of this bus will be same as that of single decker AC bus.
• The passenger carrying capacity of double decker e-buses is almost double that of their single decker counterparts.
• The seating capacity of this bus is 65 and it can accommodate 90 to 100 passengers including standing passengers.
• It is the first such bus in India which has a range of 250 kms.
