Mob Lynching Victim Compensation Scheme 2023
Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approved Mob Lynching Victim Compensation Scheme, which aims to provide financial assistance and support to victims and their families who have suffered loss or injury due to mob violence on various grounds. In case of death of a victim in a mob lynching incident, his family will get a compensation of Rs 10 lakh. The injured victims will be given compensation ranging from Rs 4 to 6 lakh.
This will also include all those incidents of mob lynching which happen due to religion, caste, language or any other reason. Mob lynching involving five or more accused will be considered under this scheme. Apart from this scheme, the Cabinet also approved the housing scheme for homeless families and doubled the honorarium given to guest faculty.
When was the Mob Lynching Victim Compensation Scheme approved?
The decision to approve the scheme was taken in compliance with the Supreme Court directions issued in July 2018, which called for setting up a lynching/mob violence victim compensation scheme by state governments. Under this scheme, interim relief should also be provided to the victims or their families within 30 days of the incident.
What is the process to get compensation?
Mob Lynching Victim Compensation Scheme in Madhya Pradesh provides compensation to the victims and their families based on specific criteria. Compensation is available for loss or injury suffered by victims of "any act of mob violence or serial acts of violence involving five or more persons". The grounds for receiving compensation include factors such as religion, caste, gender, place of birth, language, food preferences, sexual preferences, political affiliation, ethnicity and more.
Flood Relief Package
The Cabinet also took measures to provide relief to 6,700 families living in 22 villages affected by floods in areas around the Ken and Betwa rivers. This special package aims to mitigate the challenges faced by flood-affected communities and support their recovery efforts.
Public Services Provided by the Cabinet
To boost the education and healthcare sectors of the state, the Cabinet has approved the creation of 435 new posts in these departments. Further, the demand for Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) for teachers, medical officers and doctors attached to the education department has been addressed and approved. These steps reflect the government's commitment to enhancing public services and ensuring a well-supported workforce in critical sectors.
