Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2023
The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships is an international weightlifting competition open to Commonwealth nations. They are usually held in each non-Commonwealth Games year under the auspices of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation and serve as qualifying tournaments for the Games.
The Indian senior weightlifting team ended its campaign with 20 medals at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2023 held at the Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida. India's medal tally in weightlifting competition consists of 9 gold, 9 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Lovepreet Singh finished second in the 109kg senior category with a combined lift of 341kg (154kg snatch + 187kg clean and jerk). Fiji's Taniela Ranibogi won the gold medal with a total lift of 363 kg (163 kg snatch + 200 kg clean and jerk). Britain's Andrew Griffiths won the bronze medal with a total lift of 340 kg (155 kg snatch + 185 clean and jerk).
Purnima Pandey won the bronze medal in the women's +87kg category with a total lift of 227kg (102kg snatch + 125kg clean and jerk). Samoa's Iuniara Sipaya won the gold medal with a total lift of 262 kg (110 kg snatch + 152 kg clean and jerk). Another Samoan lifter, Lesila Phiiapule won the silver medal with a total lift of 250 kg (110 kg snatch + 140 clean and jerk).
