Government launched India 6G Alliance
Union Minister for Communications and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav launched the India 6G Alliance. The India 6G Alliance (B6GA) is a collaborative platform comprising public and private companies, academia, research institutes and standards development organizations. The India 6G Alliance will guide various aspects of emerging telecom technologies and platforms over the next decade and enable India to become a leading contributor to 6G technology and manufacturing by 2030.
Objectives of 6G Alliance
Its primary objective is to understand the commercial and societal needs of 6G technology, promote consensus and advance high-impact R&D planning. Providing advanced capabilities such as superior reliability, ultra-low latency, and cost-effective solutions. It aims to revolutionize communications by providing speeds nearly 100 times faster than 5G and opens up exciting possibilities for the development of innovative communications applications.
Another notable achievement in the telecom sector is the provision of nearly 1,50,000 broadband connections in rural areas in the last nine years. By fostering consensus and fostering open research and development initiatives, B6GA aims to accelerate the design, development and deployment of 6G technologies in India.
Government commitment and reforms
- The launch of the India 6G Alliance is a testimony to the government's commitment to promote the growth of the telecom sector.
- This achievement further cements India's position as one of the top three 5G ecosystems in the world, with an impressive number of 2,70,000 5G sites already ready across the country.
- In the last nine years, the government has undertaken significant reforms to position the telecom sector as a booming industry. The government has made significant progress in reducing the data cost from Rs 300 per GB in 2014 to Rs 10 per GB in 2023.
- These reforms have not only made data more accessible and affordable for the Indian population, but have also established India as a leading country.
