400 rupees cheaper cylinder for PM Ujjwala beneficiaries
Taking the decision in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the price of 14.2 kg LPG cylinder has been reduced by Rs 200 in all markets across the country from 30.08.2023, this will benefit 33 crore gas connection holders. With this, the beneficiaries will get a total subsidy of Rs 400 per cylinder.
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said that this decision of the government will put a burden of Rs 7680 crore on the government in 2022-23. The government has decided to provide 75 lakh new LPG connections free of cost under the Ujjwala Yojana to women from poor households who do not have LPG connections. These women will not have to pay a single rupee to get LPG connection. After this decision of the government, the number of beneficiaries of PM Ujjwala Yojana will increase to 10.35 crore, which is close to 9.60 crore now.
People will get the benefit of subsidy of Rs 400:-
Under the Ujjwala scheme, people will be given a separate subsidy of Rs 200 on gas cylinders. That is, in addition to the subsidy of Rs.200 already being received by the people, an additional subsidy of Rs.200 will be given. In such a situation, people will get double benefit of a total subsidy of Rs.400. Earlier on August 1, petroleum companies had reduced the prices of commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 100.
Last year, when the prices of crude oil and gas changed in the international market due to the Russia-Ukraine war, in May 2022, the Modi government started giving a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder on filling 12 cylinders to the beneficiaries of PM Ujjwala Yojana. Whose term was extended till 31 March 2024. Despite this, those who got the cylinder refilled under this scheme had to spend Rs 900.
But after this decision of the cabinet, the beneficiaries of PM Ujjwala Yojana will now get LPG cylinder at a cheaper rate of Rs 400.
