New President of Turkey 2023
Recep Tayyip Erdogan once again became the President of Turkey, he won the presidential election for the 11th time by defeating the leader of the opposition Kamal Kalchdarlu. Erdogan won 52.10 percent of the vote, while Kalchdarlu, leader of the center-left Republican People's Party (CHP), received only 48%.
In the first round of the presidential election on May 14, Erdogan won 49.52 percent of the vote, while Kilikdaroglu got 44.88 percent. No one won more than 50 percent of the votes needed to become the winner in the first round, so a re-election for the presidency was held.
The dual elections saw a high voter turnout of 86.98 percent, with approximately 54 million citizens participating in the voting. In the last two weeks, both candidates focused on problems related to refugee issues and pledged to end terrorism. Erdogan has promised a new Turkish Century if re-elected. He stressed his presidency as a necessity for harmony between state institutions and stability in the country. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was re-elected on 28 May 2023 for a third term, which will run until May 2028.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (born 26 February 1954) is a Turkish politician serving as the 12th and current President of Turkey since 2014. He previously served as Prime Minister of Turkey from 2003 to 2014 and Mayor of Istanbul from 1994 to 1998.
He also co-founded the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2001. From an Islamist political background and as a self-styled conservative Democrat, he has promoted social conservatism and adopted liberal economic policies in his administration.
