Asian Para Games 2023
Indian athletes ended their Asian Para Games 2023 campaign in Hangzhou, People's Republic of China with a total of 111 medals including 29 gold, 31 silver and 51 bronze. This was India's best-ever medal tally in a continental competition, surpassing the previous best record of 72 medals, including 15 gold, at the 2018 Asian Para Games.
Indian players won maximum 55 medals in athletics while badminton players won 21 medals including four gold. Eight medals were won in chess and seven in archery while shooters won six medals. On the last day on Saturday, India won 12 medals including four gold. Of these, seven medals were won in chess, four in athletics and one in sailing.
India finished fifth in the medal table. China won 521 medals (214 gold, 167 silver and 140 bronze) while Iran won 131 (44 gold, 46 silver and 41 bronze). Japan stood third and Korea stood fourth. The first Para Asian Games were held in 2010 in Guangzhou in which India finished 15th after winning 14 medals. After this, India stood at 15th position in 2014 and ninth position in 2018. India won more than 100 (101) medals for the first time at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.
