Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 17 km long primary section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor at Sahibabad RapidX station in Uttar Pradesh. These RapidX trains have been named 'Namo Bharat'.

The first phase will cover a distance of 17 kilometers covering a total of five stations – Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot. Trains will run at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour at an interval of 15 minutes. The RapidX train has six coaches and its capacity to carry approximately 1,700 passengers. One coach has been reserved for women passengers. The first train in both directions will start operating at 6:00 am and the last train departing from stations in both directions will be at 11:00 pm.
Each RAPIDX train will also have a premium coach with a number of additional passenger-centric features such as reclining seats, coat hooks, magazine holders and footrests. The train will have several passenger-centric features for safe and comfortable regional commuting. These include 2x2 transverse seating, luggage rack, CCTV cameras, a mobile charging facility and auto control ambient lighting.
The special features of India's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) are:
- Design speed of 180 kmph. Travel time from Delhi to Meerut less than an hour.
- High-speed trains for intercity commute every 15 minutes.
- Promoting self-reliant India – All train sets used in RRTS are made in India.
- Contactless entry/exit with automatic fare collection using RuPay NCMC card/QR based ticketing.
- Employs state-of-the-art signaling systems (European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2) on the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) backbone that enables Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and Platform Screen Door (PSD) integration, allowing It is the first country in the world to employ such technology.
- Clean and comfortable travel especially for women, children and disabled people.
- Extensive multi-modal integration with metro stations, railway stations, bus services etc.
- Multiple long-term benefits – boost to economic activity, better access to employment, education and health care opportunities and reduction in air pollution.
