Global Maritime India Summit 2023 and its Highlights
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the third edition of the Global Maritime India Summit 2023. This summit was held from 17 to 19 October at MMRDA grounds in Mumbai. Respected dignitaries including Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde and Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant were present in the inaugural session.
In line with this futuristic plan, the Prime Minister inaugurated, dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 23,000 crore, which are aligned with the 'Amrit Kaal Vision 2047' for the Indian Ocean Blue Economy. This summit provides an excellent platform to attract investments in the maritime sector of the country.
- The summit is the country's largest maritime event and included ministers from around the world representing countries in Europe, Africa, South America and Asia (including Central Asia, the Middle East and the BIMSTEC region).
- The summit was attended by CEOs, business leaders, investors, executives and other stakeholders from across the world.
- Additionally, several Indian states were represented at the summit by ministers and other dignitaries.
- This terminal will handle future generation vessels of more than 18 thousand TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) and will act as a gateway for Indian trade through the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
- During the event, the Prime Minister also dedicated over 300 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth over Rs 7 lakh crore for global and national partnerships in the maritime sector.
The three-day summit will discuss and deliberate on key issues in the maritime sector including the future of ports; decarbonization; Coastal shipping and inland water transport; shipbuilding; repair and recycling; finance, insurance and intermediation; Marine Group; Innovation and Technology; Maritime Safety and Security; and marine tourism. This summit provides an excellent platform to attract investments in the maritime sector of the country. The first Maritime India Summit was held in Mumbai in 2016 while the second Maritime Summit was held virtually in 2021.
