Uttarakhand's first Dettol Climate Resilient School
World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5th June. On this day, Reckitt inaugurated the first Dettol Climate Resilient School in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand as part of its Dettol Banega Swasth Bharat campaign. The initiative aims to provide schools with the tools and knowledge needed to build climate-resilient communities. Uttarakhand is highly susceptible to the negative effects of climate change due to various factors such as melting of glaciers, population growth, seismic activities and over-exploitation of natural resources.
Aligned with the vision of the Government of India, Dettol Climate Resilient Schools will empower children and recognize them as climate champions, who will act as catalysts in creating climate-resilient communities. The initiative will also focus on impact democratization through STEM laboratories, creation of Children's Parliament on Climate, efficient ways of conserving flora and fauna.
About Dettol Climate Resilient School
The Dettol Climate Resilient School in Uttarkashi is the first of four schools planned for development in Uttarakhand, the others being located in Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. These schools will serve as role models for sustainable practices and inspire future generations to take proactive measures. The Dettol Climate Resilient School project is part of Reckitt's flagship campaign, Dettol Banega Swasth India, and is aligned with the LIFE (Lifestyle for the Environment) framework presented by India at the Glasgow Summit in 2021.
The initiative focuses on educating and empowering the younger generation to become climate champions, driving positive change in their communities. By integrating sustainability practices into the curriculum, the project aims to reduce carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency and promote climate change awareness among students, faculty and the wider community. The Dettol Climate Resilient Schools project is aligned with the National Education Policy of the Government of India, which recognizes the role of schools in holistic development and social transformation.
The project focuses on three key aspects: campus, collaboration and curriculum. By incorporating sustainable practices into all aspects of school life, including infrastructure, partnerships and educational materials, the project aims to create a lasting impact on the environment and students.
