About Sudan crisis:
An armed conflict between opponents of Sudan's military government began on 15 April 2023, when fighting broke out across the country, mainly in the capital Khartoum and in the Darfur region. By 23 April, more than 420 people had died and more than 3,700 were injured.
The attacks began with the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) fighting key government posts. Airstrikes, artillery and heavy shelling were reported throughout Sudan, including Khartoum. As of 23 April 2023, RJD leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and Sudan's de facto leader and army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan both claimed control of several key government locations, including the General Military Headquarters, the Presidential Palace, Khartoum International Airport, Burhan's Includes official residence and SNBC headquarters.
Why was Operation Cauvery named?
The rescue operation in Sudan has been named Operation Kaveri for the same purpose for which the rescue operation in Ukraine was named Operation Ganga by Prime Minister Modi. Kaveri is one of the major Indian rivers flowing through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The people of this region also worship the river as goddess Kaveriamma. Commenting on the nomenclature of this operation by the Central government, a top source said: “Rivers reach their destinations despite obstacles.
It is like a mother who will make sure that she brings her children back safely. More than a year ago, the Narendra Modi-led government evacuated Indians from war-torn Ukraine more than a year ago. This rescue operation was dubbed as Operation Ganga because Ganga is not only a vast water resource but it is also worshiped in India.
