National Panchayat Awards Week
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj will celebrate the National Panchayat Awards Week from 17 to 21 April 2023. President Draupadi Murmu inaugurated the National Panchayat Awards Week and presented the National Panchayat Awards at the 'National Conference-cum-Award Ceremony on Promotion of Panchayats' in New Delhi.
During the celebration of the week, thematic conferences based on the theme "Celebrating the achievement of the resolutions of Panchayats" were organized.
National Panchayat Awards are presented annually by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj to the best performing Panchayats across the country in various categories to encourage and enhance their recognition.
Ministry of Panchayati Raj is encouraging best performing Panchayats through National Panchayat Awards. These awards are aligned and launched with the 9 localization themes of the Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs) aggregating the 17 SDGs during the year 2022.
Categories of Awards
- At the national level, the awards are given to village, block and district panchayats under two categories.
Objective of National Panchayat Award
The primary objective through this competition is to assess the performance of Panchayats in achieving SDGs, foster a spirit of competition among them and catalyze the process of LSDGs through Panchayati Raj Institutions to achieve LSDGs by 2030.
All Panchayats were ranked on the basis of their performance under each of the following 9 LSGD themes:
- Poverty free and advanced livelihood Panchayat
- Healthy Panchayat
- Child Friendly Panchayat
- Pani Adequate Panchayat
- Clean and green Panchayat
- Self-sufficient infrastructure in Panchayat
- Socially Secure Panchayat
- Panchayat with good governance
- Women friendly Panchayat
Main point: -
- For the award year 2023, online nominations of the reconstituted National Panchayat Awards were invited by November 15, 2022.
- This online application process saw enthusiastic participation of about 90.89% Gram Panchayats till 15th November, 2022.
- Encouraged by the participation of Panchayats and to ensure maximum participation of Gram Panchayats, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj has decided to extend the last date of online application process to 20th November, 2022.
- The reconstituted National Panchayat Awards play an important role in creating awareness among the Panchayats for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and in accelerating and localizing the achievement of these goals.
- From the year 2023, these awards will be given under 9 themes of Localization of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs), covering a total of 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
