Indian-origin Sushmita Shukla has been appointed as the First Vice President and COO of the Federal Reserve Bank in New York. Shukla, 54, has been appointed by the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from March 2023.
Shukla, who holds an MBA from New York University and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Mumbai, will be the second-in-command of the New York Fed as the first vice president.

- According to information available on the central bank's website, Shukla has close to 20 years of experience in the insurance sector and has held various leadership roles.
- Since January 2018, she has been working with Chubb, which is based in New York, and is the world's largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company.
- She is its Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (International Accident & Health).
