National Consumer Day
National Consumer Day is observed every year on 24 December. On this day in 1986, the Consumer Protection Act 1986 received the assent of the President and thus came into force. The Act aims to provide effective safeguards to consumers against various forms of exploitation, such as defective goods, deficiency in services and unfair trade practices.
The day is an occasion to recognize and protect all rights of consumers as well as to urge them to oppose market abuses and social injustices that threaten those rights.
